Interdisciplinary research

These days, future-oriented areas of innovation are found principally at the interfaces between traditional disciplines, for example, between chemistry and biology, and chemistry and engineering. Our specialists therefore increasingly work in interdisciplinary teams.

Evonik has defined six cross-unit Areas of Competence. Through them, we want to leverage further synergies in the development of innovations and realize additional growth potential. These Areas of Competence bundle our expertise in the following future-oriented technologies: Inorganic Particle Design, Coating & Bonding Technologies, Interfacial Technologies, Designing with Polymers, Biotechnology and Catalytic Processes.

In addition, from an early stage in our R&D projects we combine our competence in specialty chemicals with inhouse process and engineering know-how. That allows rapid translation of new processes into efficient industrial production.
