Evonik again wins the prestigious Ringier Technology Innovation Award for the Plastic Industry with natural fiber reinforced VESTAMID® Terra

  • It is the forth time Evonik’s innovative technology won this award
  • Natural fiber reinforced VESTAMID® Terra is a new generation of environmental-friendly, high performance compounds for special functional and appearance applications

The innovative natural fiber reinforced VESTAMID® Terra plastic material from Evonik Industries, Germany, was honored the Ringier Technology Innovation Award 2010. This latest addition to the green VESTAMID® Terra product family was selected by a panel of experts together with a total of 33 other latest technologies, which were all honored for their contributions to the success of China's plastics industry in regard to productivity increase, economic efficiency, market opportunity creation and production process.

“We are very proud to receive this prestigious award again. At the same time, leveraging on this platform, we want to present our latest development to different industry sectors, demonstrating that high performance can be aligned with bio-sourced materials, offering design flexibility to a demanding and fast growing market.” Said Ricardo Willemann, Head of Evonik’s Technical Center Shanghai, High Performance Polymers Business Line. He received the Award at the Ceremony on August 10 in Shanghai. “China’s plastics industry has been growing steadily in the past years. In order to serve the market needs, including the growing demand for green polymers, Evonik is always dedicated to demonstrate our leadership with our sustained technology innovation,” he continued.

Natural fiber reinforced VESTAMID® Terra is a new generation of environmental-friendly, high performance compounds for special functional and appearance applications. It consists of 100 % bio-sourced specialty polyamides, the monomers extracted from plant oils, e.g. castor oil, and filled with natural fibers like bamboo or wood. Although being of green origin, these materials yet feature an outstanding performance in terms of its properties and processing behavior, e.g., excellent chemical, mechanical and physical properties being on a par with the conventional engineering materials filled with glass fibers.

Evonik has been producing various high-performance polymers for about 40 years. With its many years’ expertise in various processing technologies, Evonik will continue to develop new products and applications to serve the market needs. For more information, please visit www.vestamid.com.

Launched in 2006, the Ringier Technology Innovation Awards for Plastic Industry recognize those who have made most significant contributions to the advancement of this industry in China. VESTAKEEP® (PEEK), POLYTREND® Liquid Color System, and VESTAMID® HTplus (PPA) from Evonik were elected winners in 2006, 2008 and 2009 respectively.
