Evonik at the ChinaCoat 2010: Innovative Solution Provider for the Paints and Coatings Industries

  • Introduction of the latest generation of system solutions for the paints and coatings industries
  • Getting closer to Chinese customers with regional production plant and technical service centers
  • Booth number 9A25-32, Guangzhou International Convention & Exhibition Center, September 27-29, 2010

Evonik Industries will exhibit a wide range of products and solutions for the paints, coatings, printing inks, and adhesives industries at this year’s ChinaCoat 2010, which will be held in Guangzhou from September 27 to 29, 2010.

With high-quality coating components and industry-specific expertise, Evonik currently generates approximately 14% of its chemical sales from the coating related markets. About 4 percent of these sales revenues are plowed back into research for new coating raw materials and technologies, with R&D focusing on the development of additives, raw materials, color systems, and specialty binders for high-end, eco-friendly, high-performance systems.

China coatings Industry has experienced the development of market economy and its output and value of output have increased greatly since 2001. The output and its value of China coatings have been raised by two-digit percent every year. Therefore, the area of coatings is an important and highly promising market for Evonik in the future. To further consolidate our market position, Evonik currently focuses on innovative, eco-friendly, and high-growth segments of the Chinese coatings market.

Innovative System Solutions for Coating Problems

Evonik’s additives are present in almost all coated products on the market, such as cell phones, refrigerators, and cars. These additives allow the coating to be applied uniformly and ensure better adhesion of the coated films on plastic or metal parts. With innovative products Evonik offers a wide range of tailor-made additives for the coatings and printing inks industry. For example, Evonik's Tego products make an important contribution here; including the recently launched TEGO® Rad 2010 and 2011, the cross-linkable, multifunctional additives for radiation-curing formulations; TEGO® Twin 4100 , wetting and anti-cratering additives without foaming; and Dynasylan® silanes for metal treatment, etc..

In the area of coloring, Evonik has the broadest product portfolio encompassing colorant and Carbon Black Pigment technology for optimum customers’ solutions in ink, paint and coatings applications. This includes the COLORTREND® No-VOC product series, the Carbon Black Pigments (NEROX®, Special Black, Colour Black), the CHROMA-CHEM® 844 colorants, and the INXEL™ B series pigment preparations, to name but a few.

Crosslinkers give a coating the required durability. Evonik is one of the leading suppliers of high performance cross-linkers to the coatings industry. For example, the VESTAGON® and VESTANAT® product lines benefit color-fast, weathering-resistant coatings—for trains and cars. In addition, Evonik’s methacrylate monomers, now offered under the global trademark of VISIOMER®, are important raw materials for acrylic resins for a wide variety of coatings applications like automotive and architectural paints.

Evonik is a global leader in inorganic particle design. ACEMATT® matting agents from Evonik can alter the surface in such a way that the light is scattered in a defined fashion, particularly on metallic surfaces, as in cars, but also for wood and plastic coatings.

At this year’s ChinaCoat, Evonik will also showcase its renowned coating resins, such as polyester resins based on DYNAPOL® and thermoplastic methacrylic resins under the trademark DEGALAN®. With the start up of CDP™ (Continuous Direct Polymerisation) in Shanghai, Evonik offers an innovative technology that makes it possible to manufacture solid binders that meet the most stringent quality standards of the coatings industry.

Close Proximity to Chinese Customers

As a leading global specialty chemicals company, Evonik is accessible to its customers in every part of the world with technical service as well as production plants. We focus on innovation and proximity to customers in the Greater China region as elsewhere. Therefore, the integrated facility for production of methyl methacrylate and other methacrylates has been constructed in Shanghai and started operation in 2009 with an annual capacity of 100,000 metric tons of MMA. Technical service has also been further strengthened, and centers for this purpose have been set up over the last few years in the region.

With its comprehensive commitment to the growth of the coatings market, Evonik is underscoring its firm intention to develop innovative solutions jointly with its customers for formulation of advanced colorant and coating systems—in keeping with its claim of Solutions to Customers.
