Evonik joins CPCIF to promote chemical solutions for automotive industry
• Evonik will cohost the session on lightweight automotives at CPCIC 2014
• Evonik is a development partner for new technologies for the automotive industry
As one of the world leaders in specialty chemicals, Evonik Industries will attend the 2014 China Petroleum & Chemical International Conference (CPCIC) in Tianjin, China from 11 September to 12 September as a main sponsor. Evonik will also co-host the session on lightweight automotives during the conference. Experts from industry assocations, OEMs and suppliers will share their views about lightweight design technologies, development trends, technical issues and how to promote and implement lightweight solutions for Chinese automotive industry.
“Evonik’s activities are geared to the megatrends of Resource efficiency, Health, Nutrition and Globalization and we are committed to solve the challenging problems emerging globally. Lightweigt design solution is an example of our dedication and commitment for meeting global challenges like resource efficiency,” said Eckart Ruban, who heads the Automotive Industry Team at Evonik. “As a development partner for new technologies, we are determined to push on new material concepts in the automotive industries and boost the necessary innovation speed.”
Broad solutions for automotive lightweight design
Evonik offers broad solutions for lightweight design, from innovative polymer glazing, sandwich composites with ultra light structural foams and fast curing resins, plastc and metal hybrid parts with adhesive to metal replacements with high performance materials.
The Roewe E50 featured at the Evonik booth at CPCIC 2014 presents our various applications to support reduced energy consumption and lower emissions. For example, the use of Evonik’s PLEXIGLAS® - a coated PMMA to replace traditional mineral glass - in Roewe E50 reduces weight of the rear window up to 40-50%. The advantages of PLEXIGLAS® glazing include UV stability and good acoustic properties, which means added value for the vehicle as a whole. The engine hood of Roewe E50 uses the structural foam ROHACELL® developed by Evonik. This material is used as core in sandwich structures. Compared to a steel engine hood, the sandwich version saves up to 70% of weight. With the aim to support high output production of composite body parts, a new epoxy resin formulation based on VESTAMIN® hardener technology was used in the resin infusion manufacturing process. Short cycle times can be realized to be able to fit for mass production.
