- Expanded portfolio of feed ingredients, digital farm management tools and water quality solutions
- Introduction of AQUAVI® Pro-Pond in the largest shrimp market in the world
Evonik is presenting system solutions for sustainable aquaculture at the China Aquaculture Expo from October 20 to 22 in Nanjing. Evonik's holistic offering includes products and services for animal health, animal nutrition, environment, and farm management.
"Fish and crustaceans are among the world's most important sources of high-quality animal protein," says Ou Song, Director Sustainable Aquaculture Solutions in Evonik's Animal Nutrition business line. "We want to help fish and shrimp farmers produce healthy animals-while preserving marine biodiversity and protecting the immediate environment. To this end, we deliver comprehensive, coordinated solutions."
To keep fish and crustaceans healthy in aquaculture, the water quality must be right. In collaboration with the Chinese company Vland Biotech Group, Evonik has developed a probiotic product for aquaculture ponds that removes the nitrogen compounds ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite, which are dangerous to humans and animals, from the water. "AQUAVI® Pro-Pond improves the living conditions of fish and shrimp while reducing the environmental impact of too frequent water changes," Song says.
The product will be presented to the trade public for the first time at the China Aquaculture Expo and will initially only be available in China, the world's largest market for aquaculture.
Attendees at the show can also find out more about hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid for use in water treatment to combat pathogenic germs and provide additional oxygen supply in ponds. Furthermore ASPERIX® Vet, from Evonik's Active Oxygens business line is an effective and sustainable treatment against sea lice infestation in fish farming.
The most important component of sustainable aquaculture is a balanced diet that requires as few natural resources as possible and minimizes the animals' excretions. MetAMINO® and AQUAVI® Met-Met from Evonik contribute to a fish or shrimp diet low in fish meal. AMINONIR® allows rapid, accurate analysis of feed raw materials. AMINOTilapia® and AMINOShrimp® help farmers to optimally adapt the amino acid composition of the feed to the respective developmental stage of the animals.
Algae oil from Veramaris, a joint venture between Evonik and DSM, can also largely replace fish oil in fish feed. The algae oil is produced by marine microalgae on land and supplies the animals with the vital omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA.
Products such as SIPERNAT®, ZEOFREE®, or AEROSIL® from Evonik's Silica business line ensure more reliable aquaculture feeding. Adding them in a fish feed extrusion process results in pellets with high fat content which are durable and more resistant to mechanical stress during delivery and feeding.
Evonik experts will be happy to talk about any of these products and services and the team can be found at the China Aquaculture Expo in Hall 7, Booth 2V15.
