In view of the global challenges such as climate change, limited resources and demographic trends, we are firmly convinced that a sustainability-oriented long-term focus is vital for lasting corporate success. Our binding Group-wide Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) strategy, including rules that have been audited externally, forms the basis for our action. Audits are conducted to monitor implementation by the business groups, regions and sites. Alongside many internal audits in operating units, in 2012 we conducted 24 corporate audits. Over 97 percent of our global production has been validated externally as conforming to ISO 14011, the internationally recognized environmental management standard.

Evonik is committed to the global Responsible Care initiative, and we constantly strive to improve our performance in health, safety, the environment and product stewardship. At the start of 2006 we signed the chemical industry's Responsible Care Global Charter. The Greater China region followed suit by signing the Beijing Manifesto in May 2008. In addition, Evonik promotes Responsible Care® through the joint efforts with the Association of International Chemical Manufacturer (AICM). Evonik has defined clear roadmap to implement Responsible Care® and live it through various programs, including the establishment of internal RC evaluation standards, RC self-assessment program in all the sites of Greater China region, “Good Neighbor Program” and other Open-to-Public events. Evonik received the 2013 Responsible Care® Merit Award from AICM, in virtue of its excellent performance in implementing and promoting Responsible Care®.
